I Lost My Love In Baghdad

Michael Hastings

Both a raw and brilliantly observed account of a hopeless war and a heartbreaking story of one life lost to it.

Opinion

'Love and war always make for a potent brew, and in Michael Hastings's new book they infuse the horror in Iraq … This is what really happens when love, youth, and innocence descend into the abyss of death and devastation that is Iraq.'
-Craig Unger, author of House of Bush, House of Saud and American Armageddon

About this Title

At only twenty-five, Michael Hastings arrives in Baghdad to cover the war in Iraq for Newsweek.

Back in New York, Hastings had fallen in love with Andi Parhamovich. A year into their courtship, Andi follows Michael to Iraq, taking a job as an aid worker.

As Hastings charts their war-zone romance he gives us a window into life in Baghdad-the chaos, the violence, the never-ending threats of bomb and mortar attacks and the ever-changing front lines of battle.

But then this modern love story takes a tragic turn. Returning from a dangerous mission in one of Baghdad's worst neighbourhoods, Andi's convoy is ambushed. Amid bullets and grenades, Andi doesn't stand a chance.

Searing, unflinching and revelatory, I Lost My Love in Baghdad is both a raw and brilliantly observed account of a hopeless war and a heartbreaking story of one life lost to it.
