About this Title

The State Library of Victoria is the state’s premier reference and research library, the hub of a statewide information and communications network, and a gateway to the world’s information. Acting on its mandate to collect and preserve Victoria’s documentary heritage, the Library acquires items that showcase all facets of Victorian life, past and present, and makes them available to the community through a range of services, exhibitions and cultural
programs.

Formerly known as the Stawell Gallery, the Library’s Cowen Gallery was constructed in 1892 for the National Gallery of Victoria, which occupied the building until 1968. The Cowen Gallery features a permanent display of 150 works of art from the Pictures Collection – the oldest visual documentary collection in Australia. The works illustrate Victoria’s landscape, early Melbourne scenes, and significant events and figures in the European exploration and settlement of Australia.

The production of this calendar was made possible with the generous support of the Agnes Robertson Trust.
