From the Jaws of Defeat

Amazing comebacks and inspiring capitulations

Tim Lane and Nick Richardson (eds)

A collection of quotations from notable Australians who have suffered major public defeats or setbacks, yet in some manner carried the day.

Opinion

“The essence of each comeback is captured in a single page and these are the kinds of stories you keep coming back to, especially when you need inspiration to avoid a defeat that seems otherwise inevitable.”
(Patrick Cullen, Illawarra Mercury, 13/8/05)

‘A nicely presented hardback in gift-book size with quirky content. The authors look at Australians who have hit rock bottom and lived to tell the tale.”
(Shaunagh O’Connor, Weekend (The Age??), 18/12/04)

About this Title

A collection of quotations from notable Australians who have suffered major public defeats or setbacks, yet in some manner carried the day. From Ned Kelly’s words at his sentencing, to John Howard’s famous ‘Lazarus act’ in the mid-90s, this book is an entertaining reminder that when things look at their bleakest, not all is necessarily lost.
