About this Title

The publication of Australian Children’s Books: A Bibliography provides an essential reference for all those who have come to appreciate the extraordinary richness of Australian writing for children. Librarians, book collectors, specialist and antiquarian booksellers, and everyone with an interest in this important aspect of Australian cultural history, now have an accessible, authoritative and comprehensive source.

The two volumes cover the years 1774 to 1988. They list all children’s books by Australians, and Volume One also lists books about Australia, with physical descriptions, dates, publishers, illustrations, awards received and, where necessary, remarks on the content. They contain a record of the whole spectrum of our children’s books from the earliest editions for children of the great discoverers’ voyages to the most up-to-date editions in many languages and formats by contemporary Australian authors.
